You've probably seen Hello Kitty before, especially if you have kids.
She's a popular character designed by Japanese company Sanrio 40 years ago "to inspire happiness, friendship and sharing across the world."
You can find her face plastered all over everything from lunchboxes to t-shirts to jewelry and just about anything else you can think of.
With her pointy ears, whiskers and paws, she obviously looks like a cat. Hey, she has the word "kitty" right there in her name, so she must be a cat! Right??
An anthropologist from the University of Hawaii named Christine R. Yano was preparing an exhibit on Hello Kitty for the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. She told the LA Times that while preparing some written texts for the exhibit, she was "corrected...very firmly!" by a representative from the Sanrio corporation who said that Hello Kitty is NOT a cat...she's a little girl.
Yup, that's what the guy from Sanrio said. However, another rep for the Sanrio company later refuted the earlier statements. "Hello Kitty is the personification of a cat," he said.
Well...guess that clears that up. But here's some other odd facts about Hello Kitty, according to Sanrio:
She's not Japanese, she's British (huh?)
She's in the 3rd grade.
Her name isn't actually "Hello Kitty", it's Kitty White.
Apparently, it's Pumpkin Season ALREADY. I tried to order a SUMMER ALE, while on vacation last week, because technically it's still summer, and was told -
"We now have our 'fall ale' on tap!"
WHAT? Am I the only one who's a little ticked off about this? I'm just trying to enjoy the last of the Summer season, with a nice, cold, lemony ale, and they have ripped it away from me before Labor Day!! Everywhere I go, it seems like the signs all boast about how "the fall flavors are back!" Ice cream, beer, coffee, even Pop Tarts, M&M's, Pringles and Eggo waffles!!
Please keep your Pumpkin-Halloweenfest-Octoberhead goodness in the pumpkin patch for at least a couple more weeks! I beg you!!
It feels good to get that off my chest! But, I know that many of you are genuinely excited about the early flavor change, so...here are some links I found to help satisfy your sweet, pumpkin tooth. Personally, I won't be using them until October. Enjoy!! --Michelle

The 50 year-old actor and the 39-year-old actress, who met while shooting 2012 movie 'Mr and Mrs. Smith', got engaged in 2012.
Angelina and Brad have children Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, eight, and five-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox together and the 'Maleficent' star revealed in May that the couple were waiting for the "right time" to get married.
She said: "We're just waiting for it to be the right time with the kids, with work, when it feels right.
"We talk about it occasionally, and the kids talk about it with us."
Details of the ceremony are being kept under wraps but Angelina previously admitted the couple's children were going to plan their nuptials.
She explained: "They will in a way be the wedding planners. It's going to be Disney or paintball – one or the other! We've got a lot of different personalities in the house.
"They've got some strong opinions. It will be fun. That's the important thing. When we do it, it will feel like a great day for our family."
Angelina – who underwent a double mastectomy last year – and Brad will get the chance to toast their wedding in perfect style in their upcoming movie 'By The Sea' after Us Weekly reported they are preparing to shoot some "crazy sex scenes" in the motion picture.
Brad was married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005, while Angelina wed Johnny Lee Miller in 1996 but they divorced in 1999 and she later tied the knot to Billy Bob Thornton in 2000 but they split in 2003.
Yes, Luke Bryan is super talented, and he makes great music.
Turns out he's also an amazing person too.
Earlier this month, he played a show in Saratoga. In the audience was a little boy named Riley who has Asperger's syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder. His mom says Riley seems to be at his best when listening to Luke Bryan's music.
Riley and his mom visited a local radio station to talk about their experience at Luke's show. Little did they know, Luke was listening on the phone the whole time. When he spoke up, he asked Riley what his favorite song was.
He's released a new song from the album, which he says was inspired by his wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, while they were working together on a business venture.
The song is called "Shattered Glass", and it talks about the glass ceiling that exists for women in the workplace. The video is a powerful message to women of all ages to go after their goals and not let anything stand in their way. Watch the video below, and click here to read more about the song.
and now the full album will be released on October 21st.
They've also released some tour dates, kicking off on November 8th. So far, no New England dates, but we'll let you know if and when that changes. Click here to view the conplete list, and watch the tour announcement below:
Well, these past few weeks have been pretty interesting to say the least! 2 weeks ago from this very day, I was told I was having surgery for a detached retina, and was not going to participate in The Tough Mudder….I triumphed and healed just enough and in time to be able to do Mudder with my team, “The Studio Mis Fits”. I thought losing close to 200 pounds was empowering in itself….Little did I know how empowered I would feel yet again after reaching that finish line...
Even though I had a great personal trainer, and great teammates to train with as well, I don’t think reality really set in as to what I was getting myself into until I set foot on the course and Sunset Ridge yesterday morning. Thousands of people attended, some being their first time, and some having done it several times. Yesterday, after we went over that first wall, and made our way to the starting line, everyone of us joined forces and became one team.
We endured 10.2 miles of very muddy, slippery, dangerous terrain, with over 20 obstacles in the way. We ran, walked, dug our hands in quicksand-like mud to pull ourselves up walls of more mud and sludge. We got over walls, monkey bars, walked a plank and jumped into 10 feet of water from 20 feet above. We crawled through dark tunnels, jumped into pools of mud and had to crawl or walk our way out, and did our own ALS challenge by jumping into a dumpster of ice and the only way to get out was to swim under and reach the other side. And finished by running through an obstacle called Electroshock Therapy…dozens of electric wires striking us, and some so powerful, it drops you to your knees, or even face. And through the whole journey, was forced to face fears of getting muddy, hurt, shocked, deep water, cold frigid water, and darkness. But we weren’t alone. We had our team (Myself, Mike, Susan, Martha, Patty, Robert, Cheryl, and two other Mikes, and Lyndsey), and we had other’s to help along the way…we endured falls, hurt knees, migraines, and fatigue, but yet we never complained through the 4 hours of treacherous conditions and obstacles. Instead, we conquered and formed stronger bonds and friendships! We came out winners…and official “Tough Mudder’s”
If you did this event Saturday, or Sunday, I applaud you, whether it was your first, like mine, or second or third…It WAS tough! It was worth it. And, I can’t wait to do it again!
“When was the last time you did something for the first time?” “Try to do something once a week that scares you!” Those were the words spoken to us at the starting point yesterday. Both will stick with me forever…
Fall isn't just about new TV shows or hot back to school fashion trends.
It's also a time when a slew of new music releases come out, including several highly anticipated country albums. Here's a little preview:
BRAD PAISLEY - Moonshine In The Trunk
Technically, this comes out on 8/25, so it arrives a little earlier than the fall. But this is one country fans have been eagerly awaiting since hearing the first single "River Bank". His 9th album overall, expect big things from this record.
TIM McGRAW - Sundown Heaven Town
Look for this one on September 16th. If you saw Tim in concert this year, you may have heard some of these songs already, as he's been previewing them live in concert on this tour. If "Meanwhile Back At Mama's" and "Lookin' For That Girl" are any indication, Tim's 13th album should be one of his best.
KENNY CHESNEY - The Big Revival
Everybody seems to love "American Kids", so when the full album hits stores on September 23rd, it will no doubt be a big seller based on the strength of that single alone. Kenny says he's anxious to show people that there's more to country music than "trucks, creekbeds and cutoffs".
FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE - Anything Goes
Their debut album was a monster smash, but can FGL avoid the dreaded "sophomore slump?"
We'll find out when the second record is released on October 14th. The boys stay they spent a lot of time getting this record just right, and lead single "Dirt" is only the beginning. Love them or hate them, FGL's "bro country" style is huge right now. Will fans want more of the same for the 2nd album. We'll have to wait and see...
BLAKE SHELTON - Bringing Back The Sunshine
Coming September 30th is the latest from Blake. His last 12 singles have gone to number 1, and he may just get another number 1 out of his brand new single "Neon Light". Blake says the song has a "new sound" but with "a very traditional chorus." A mix of old and new may be just what country fans have been waiting for!

She calls it The "Randarita" (get it? "Miranda" crossed with "margarita"?)
And yes, it's made with sugar-free Crystal Light. Here's the recipe:
1 shot (1 oz.) vodka
1 bottle (16 oz.) water
1 pkt Crystal Light on the Go Raspberry Lemonade Mix
1 splash diet carbonated lemon-lime soda
Randarita Mixing Directions:
In a 12-oz. glass, add ice and vodka. Take the bottle of water and add 1 packet of Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade and shake it up to mix. Pour half of the Crystal Light into the glass, leaving 1-inch of space. Add a splash of soda and a straw!
Miranda says she has one of these before a show and a half during. Her trainer would prefer that she not drink at all, but Miranda says: "That's not an option!"
But since the drink is low-cal, and Miranda doesn't drink to excess, her trainer reluctantly approves.
And of course, Miranda is over 21, and ALWAYS drinks responsibly!
So, today, I had a follow up with my regular eye dr. so he could see the results of the surgery I had last week. Plus, my eyesight has changed because of this, and I haven’t been able to see clearly out of my left eye since this all happened! He did a test, took the picture, and behold, the retina is 98% reattached in RECORD time!
And the bonus news? Because the Schleral Buckle that was attached to my eye during surgery, it changed the shape of my eyeball, and now the astigmatism is gone! It’s like finding an extra prize at the bottom of your favorite cereal box! Ok, well, not quite like that, but you get the idea! I have a new contact lens sitting pretty in my left eye, and I can see! Do you know how difficult it was to drive with one good eye, and one blurry eye?? I DO NOT advise that! The picture I attached looks like something from outer space, but that’s actual my retina sitting almost completely on my eye now! Last week, the gap was almost at a 90 degree angle!
Anyways, life is good, and many of you know I had been training to do my first Tough Mudder….Guess who’s back do doing her first Tough this Sunday? That would be ME!!! Thanks so much for your support, concerns, and well wishes…Although I am not 100% healed…I am healed enough to live life the way I wanted…active, healthy, and seeing out of both eyes!
And here is where I must add my disclaimer…only because my surgery had amazing results in record time!
So, many of you heard me talk about my sudden retinal detachment after returning from vacation and having to have emergency surgery, and I was finding many listeners scared and concerned about why it happened, how it happened, and if it could happen to them. The answer is, YES! It could happen to you, or to anyone that has eyes for that matter!
Retinal detachment occurs when the retina, a light-sensitive membrane located at the back of the eye, separates from the back of the eye. This causes loss of vision that can be partial or total, depending on how much of the retina is detached. Retinal detachment is a medical emergency. When the retina becomes detached, its cells may be deprived of oxygen. If left untreated, retinal detachment can lead to permanent blindness.I was lucky enough to only suffer partial vision impairment because I had it treated right away!
Risk factors for retinal detachment include:
posterior vitreous detachment (PVD)–a common condition in aging individuals, in which the fluid in the retina breaks down, putting strain on the retinal fibers
While I am over 40 (please don’t remind me), and I am nearsighted, there was no trauma to my eye, and the Dr. said this was more than likely a fluke! Did you know that 1 in every 10,000 people get a detached retina in their lifetime? So, what are the symptoms?
*Blurred vision, partial vision loss, flashes of light when looking to the side, areas of darkness in your field of vision, and suddenly seeing many floaters*
I had ALL of these…and most of them (except for the vision loss) a week before, but never thought anything of it.
After having emergency surgery, I am on the mend, and hoping to see clearly out of my eye soon, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, do NOT ignore the symptoms! This is a very serious medical condition, and I was lucky enough to get it taken care of right away.
Many of you know my history of losing close to 200 pounds and how much being active and working out meant to me, as well as training for Tough Mudder, which is taking place this Sunday. All of that was halted for me one day as I woke up to get ready for a typical work day. And while I was disappointed, and angry that it happened to me when it did, I now realize just how important my health and vision are to me, and that there will be other 5k’s, Tough Mudders, and workouts! But there may have not been another chance for me to see out of my left eye!
Dave here with HUGE NEWS that I really can't tell you about, but I gotta tell you somethin'! Just heard Garth Brook's new single and although I've been sworn to secrecy, I can tell you it's amazing.......can't wait to share more.
The legendary George Strait played the final tour date of his career back on June 7th in Arlington, Texas, and a whole bunch of country superstars showed up to help give him a proper send-off. 104,000 people attended the show, shattering indoor concert attendance records.
Fortunately, for those of us who couldn't be there in person, CMT cameras were also there to capture the whole thing. The result is a 2 hour special called George Strait: The Cowboy Rides Away, which will air on CMT on August 29th at 7pm.
The lovely, talented and super sweet Maddie and Tae stopped by to chat with Rick last week. They talked about the idea behind their hit "Girl In A Country Song", and what inspired them to write it. (click here to listen to the inteview)
In a nutshell, the ladies said they felt compelled to respond to many of the images put forth in a lot of "bro country" songs, where women are often depicted as long-legged blonde beauties in tight cutoff shorts and bikini tops. Maddie and Tae said they thought it might not be so great to be that "Girl In A Country Song", having to dress like that while the boys ogle and whistle at you from their pickup trucks.
And while the girls didn't mention any names, the poster boys for the bro country style these days are unquestionably Florida Georgia Line. But in a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, FGL's Brian Kelley responded to Maddie and Tae's song by saying "All I'm gonna' say about that is I don't know one girl who doesn't want to be a girl in a country song..."
Maddie and tae's reasponse?
"The whole thing is just us wanting to come at this from a different perspective, making sure that the girl that these guys are singing about gets a voice because you very rarely ever hear from her. He’s a dude, he doesn’t know what it’s like to be a woman or to be the girl in these songs. We can’t really speak for anyone else, we just know that that’s definitely not something we would want to do, so that’s why we wrote it."
So, not exactly a feud, and Maddie and Tae say they're not taking Brian's comments personally. They insist that they're huge Florida Georgia Line fans, and that the guys themselves are "awesome" and "sweethearts".
Pictured above is the cover of the new album from Blake Shelton, set to hit stores on September 30th! Blake made the announcement Friday morning on the Today show. The cover photo was taken in his native town of Ada, Oklahoma.
No official track listing has been released yet, but we can't wait to hear it!
